About Dr Richard Halvorsen – BabyJabs Founder

You may have come to our website after hearing about or reading the work of our founder, Dr Richard Halvorsen. Although Dr Halvorsen retired at the end of 2021, his ethos about giving parents like you more choice about their children’s vaccinations remains at the heart of BabyJabs.

Why Dr Halvorsen founded BabyJabs

Dr Halvorsen worked as a GP in central London for many years and first became interested in childhood vaccinations after his son was born in 1983. He was concerned by the increasing number of vaccines being given to babies, especially for diseases that are either uncommon or rarely serious.

As a GP, he offered mercury-free vaccines to his NHS patients and also offered parents a choice between MMR and single vaccines (when they were previously available) for many years.

Dr Halvorsen wanted to give all parents more choice about which vaccines to give a child and when they should be given, a choice that is not available with the NHS vaccination schedule. He also wanted parents to be able to discuss their safety concerns and demands for a greater choice of vaccines for their children, including the opportunity to delay vaccinations or to access vaccines containing little to no aluminium.

This led to him forming BabyJabs, a dedicated children’s immunisation service, in 2007.

Dr Halvorsen’s books

Dr Halvorsen has written and spoken extensively about immunisation, including in many media appearances. His book, The Truth About Vaccines, was first published in 2007. A much expanded and updated fourth edition was published in 2017 under the title Vaccines: Making the right choice for your child.
